How to forward Teads Click ID

Learn about Teads Click ID and its central role in monitoring your traffic acquisition campaign's performance

Updated over a week ago

The click ID allows the Teads Pixel to accurately track the actions of a user that arrives to your website after clicking on a Teads ad (when a conversion occurs, the Teads pixel reads the click ID saved in our first-party cookie and uses this information for attribution).

Without the click ID, monitoring and measurement is significantly restricted in browsers that do not support cookies (e.g. Safari, Firefox), which will cause the campaign to display diminished performance as a result.

Forwarding the Teads Click ID with third-party tracking tags

If your campaign's creatives are set up to direct users straight to your website, no further action is required on your end. However, if your campaign uses a third-party campaign manager for click tracking, you must manually set up the clickthrough URL in Teads Ad Manager following the instructions provided below, to ensure that the Teads click ID value (auctid) is passed correctly:

Google Campaign Manager 360

To set up Teads Click ID forwarding using Google Campaign Manager click trackers:

  1. Follow the URL of your click tracker (typically in the format https://ad.doubleclick.net/ddm/trackclk/N4242.BLABLA/B45678;dc_trk_aid=...)

  2. Copy the full resolved URL of the landing page, including all UTMs and additional macros, that opens in your browser. Avoid using incognito mode for this step as it may cause some macros to be automatically removed from the resolved URL.

  3. Append the full landing page URL to your existing click tracker in TAM Creative Editor or Teads Studio, by adding a question mark followed by the URL. The resulting URL will look similar to this: https://ad.doubleclick.net/ddm/trackclk/N4242.BLABLA/B45678;dc_trk_aid=...?https://www.example-advertiser.com/product?utm_source=Paid&utm_medium=Display&utm_campaign=ABC123&utm_content=Teads&dclid=CPHk6_GUvIQDFf1VHQkdeQEONg

  4. If the resolved URL contains a click ID from Campaign Manager (typically in the format &dclid= ), it must be removed from the appended URL to prevent issues with Campaign Manager tracking. The resulting URL without the &clid= value will be similar to this: https://ad.doubleclick.net/ddm/trackclk/N4242.BLABLA/B45678;dc_trk_aid=...?https://www.example-advertiser.com/product?utm_source=Paid&utm_medium=Display&utm_campaign=ABC123&utm_content=Teads

  5. Save this new URL as the click destination URL during the setup of your creatives in Teads Ads Manager.

Important:

  • If the landing page URL for a campaign is changed mid-flight in Google Campaign Manager, the creatives in Teads Ad Manager must also be updated to reflect the new URL in the click ID forwarding configuration.

Sizmek

To set up Teads Click ID forwarding using Sizmek click trackers:

  1. Navigate to the site tracking level in your Sizmek dashboard, and use the Line ID item at the placement level to enter the macro &auctid=[%tp_LineID%] at the end of the destination URL (e.g. https://www.example-advertiser.com/product?id=42&utm_source=Teads&auctid=[%tp_LineID%]

  2. Add the following parameter to the Sizmek click trackers in the campaign creative: &LineID=$$[AUCTID]$$ . The resulting URL should look similar to: https://bs.serving-sys.com/Serving/adServer.bs?...&adid=4242&ord=[RND]&LineID=$$[AUCTID]$$

To set up Teads Click ID forwarding using Weborama click trackers:

  1. Click on the Weborama click tracker and copy the resolved URL that opens up in the browser. Avoid using incognito mode for this step as it may cause some macros to be automatically removed from the resolved URL.

  2. Add a &g.lu= parameter at the end of the click tracker.

  3. Replace all existing ampersands (&) with %26 and paste the copied URL directly after &g.lu= . Note that some ampersands will be automatically encoded as %26 by Weborama when you click on the click tracker, and you must only replace the ones that are not encoded. The rest of the special characters (?, {}, =) should remain unchanged.

  4. Use the resulting URL as the clickthrough destination on your creative in Creative Editor or Teads Studio. The URL should look similar to: https://www.advertiser-example.com/?a.A=cl&a.si=10&a.te=6&a.ra=[...]&g.lu=https://www.advertiser-example.com/?utm_campaign=reference%26utm_content=native%26utm_source=teads
