CTV InStream Creatives specifications

Learn about the creative formats available for Connected TV (CTV) and compatibility requirements

Updated yesterday

InStream video, which is part of the Teads CTV offering, is currently available as a channel for Branding and Quality Traffic campaign objectives.

The minimum elements required for a CTV creative are:

  • Landscape Video only

  • MP4 file

  • Must be a HD video file

When using 3rd party VAST tags, the following conditions are mandatory:

  1. The media file within the 3rd party VAST tag needs to fit the above and needs to be the only media file within the VAST XML tree.

  2. The VAST tag should NOT contain any VPAID.

  3. Insert a redirect URL at Creative level even if there is a QR code or a 3rd party VAST tag that the actual redirect lives in. This will help with Google Authorized Buyers (GAB) inventory approving the creative. The GAB creative approval generally takes around 6 hours to complete so please do not be alarmed if your campaign does not launch immediately when only targeting GAB inventory.

What ad lengths are supported on CTV InStream?

The recommended video duration is 15 or 30 seconds. For videos longer than 60 seconds, please contact your Teads customer support.

Best Practices for CTV Traffic Creatives

  • Always use a video skin or ribbon for the CTV ads. These elements can help showcase key messaging more effectively.

  • Always include the URL/domain that the user must visit. On-screen URLs are exponentially more effective than QR codes at driving website traffic.

  • Always include an appropriate call to action.

When there is a current promotion:

  • Use the L-shaped video skin:

    • Include current promo messaging

    • Clear call to action (Shop Now, Visit…)

    • Include the website/domain

When there isn’t a current promotion:

  • Use the overlay ribbon at the bottom:

    • Clear call to action (Shop Now, Discover More, Visit…)

    • Include the website/domain

Note: If you require a Teads Studio-enhanced CTV creative or to implement a QR code created by Teads within your custom CTV creative, please reach out to your Teads representative for support.
